The Argonia Development Company, LLC and the community
of Argonia are now offering a housing development for new home
construction. The development of fifty-seven acres offers free lots that are
approximately one acre. Twenty-four lots are planned with a three-acre lake in the
center of the property.

On Friday, September 26, 1980 the Argonia
Housing Authority held a ground breaking ceremony for a new housing project
located in the northwest part of the city. The project would consist of 12
one bedroom living units complete with appliances, carpet, draperies. Four
more units were added at a later date bringing the total to 16 units. A
separate community building containing a multi-purpose room and laundry
facility was also to be provided to residents of the housing. The housing
project was financed by the Farmers Home Administration, U.S. Department of
Agriculture. Rent charges to be based on income within limits eligible
tenants 62 years of age could afford was well as being in accordance with
all equal opportunity aspects of the housing program. The multi-purpose
room is the site of Argonia Friendship Meals and the meeting place for the
Senior Service Board and Nutrition Council. Mary Lou Voge is manager of
